LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) -

A Lafayette, LA woman has been arrested one month after her 3-year-old daughter died from hypothermia with dehydration.

In late July, the 3-year-old child was taken to the hospital where medical personnel told police the child had been dead for some time.

The mother, 27-year-old Sara Leblanc of Lafayette, told investigators the child had been sick for a couple of days and on the morning of her death, the child allegedly fell asleep at 6 a.m. and was not check on until 7 p.m. that night.

The mother told police she never left the home, but according to investigators, video surveillance shows Leblanc did leave the child unattended to go to a fast food restaurant.

The autopsy of the child showed she died of hypothermia with dehydration. The investigation revealed the child went approximately 25 hours without food or fluids during her illness.

On Tuesday, Aug. 12, Leblanc was arrested and charged with negligent homicide.

She is being in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on a $5,000 bond.
