BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Police said a man was arrested after a woman was attacked Tuesday morning.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported James Fort Jr., 33, of Baton Rouge, is charged with attempted rape and theft.

Investigators said a woman was on North 17th Street, when a man allegedly asked to have sex with her for money. They added when she said, "No," the suspect allegedly told her, "I guess you're going to have sex for free then."

Police said the man pulled the victim to the ground and ripped her pants, but she was able to get away and call for help. The woman also reported the suspect stole money from her purse and then ran away.

Authorities said Fort was arrested a short distance away on Laurel Street based on the suspect’s clothing description given by the victim.

He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. His bond was set at $250,500.
