A new law is now in effect in Louisiana concerning cell phone use in school zones. It's a step in the right direction, but it doesn't go far enough.
The law says motorists can't call, text, read, post to social sites or anything on their handheld phone through school zones. If you're caught you can be fined. There is an important reason for this law. When you are doing those things on your cell phone, you aren't paying attention to your driving.
But the law doesn't go far enough because it's being left up to each school district to enforce. The law only applies if signs are posted advising drivers. We encourage each school district and each school to get those signs posted ASAP. I'm James Smith.
