BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - After a judge ruled that former State Representative Woody Jenkins did not have a real interest in the case against the city of Baton Rouge after two major annexations, an appeal has been filed.
Jenkins had five days to appeal. The annexation hearing was Monday, August 4. The deadline is Monday, August 11.
Alex St. Amant, Jenkins' attorney, took the appeal to Judge Janice Clark in the 19th JDC for her signature Friday afternoon. The judge was out of the office Friday, but is expected to sign the appeal on Monday.
Jenkins filed the lawsuit in June after the East Baton Rouge Metro Council approved the annexation of the Mall of Louisiana and Baton Rouge General Hospital - Bluebonnet. Jenkins, who is a supporter of the highly contested proposed city of St. George, said the annexations of those two facilities into the city of Baton Rouge are illegal.
