Victim in fatal Smyrna shooting identified

SMYRNA, TN (WSMV) -

A man has died after being shot several times outside of a home in Smyrna on Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to a shooting call on the 100 block of Kings Road just after 7 a.m., which is when they found 46-year-old Danny Wright.

Wright was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Police say a car stopped on the street and someone got out, shooting Wright multiple times.

Wright was reportedly staying in a van in the driveway of the home where the shooting happened.

The Smyrna Police Department says the gunman is a black man who was wearing dark clothing and is described as being tall and skinny. The man reportedly left the scene in a late model tan or white sedan.

Neighbor Teresa McGowan was asleep at the time of the shooting, but was jolted awake by gunfire.

"I heard something go pow, pow, pow, real loud, and it did it about four or five times," McGowan said.

McGowan lives across the street from where the shooting happened. She said she is now worried about her family.

"I'm frightened for our life because you never know if that person will try to come back and do it to someone else," McGowan said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Det. Rick Hall at (615) 459-6644.
