BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Police have arrested a man who was shot while trying to burglarize a home early Wednesday morning.

Officials say Bem Sampson, 19 was shot in the forearm by a 57-year-old victim while burglarizing a home in the 2700 block of Adams Avenue.

The father of the homeowner was driving by when he saw and air conditioner was pulled from the window. The father decided to stop and check it out.  Investigators believe the father saw the suspect and confronted him.

“He fired a shot at the suspect; the suspect then went through another window and fled the scene,” said Baton Rouge Police Cpl. L’Jean Mckneely.

Detectives said they later found Sampson a block away on Monroe St.

Mckneely said, situations like that are scary but there are ways to protect yourself.

“Things like this do happen so pay attention to your surroundings. Try to secure your house as best as possible. And as those things do occur try to protect yourself as best as you can,” explained Mckneely.

Police said they are still investigation whether charges will be filled against the father.

Sampson is now booked in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
