Family of 5 needs help after fire destroys home

Fire destroys elderly couple's home in Denham Springs

DENHAM SPRINGS, LA - A family in Denham Springs needs help after a fire destroyed their home. The front room of their house caught fire Monday but was extinguished. The fire rekindled later that evening and took what was left.

The Thacker family; grandparents, their granddaughter and her two kids lived in the house on Robinson Drive in Denham Springs.

When the family returned to the home, just about all they had left were their photo albums.

"Its sad, because I think about it and want to cry, but I can't cry because too much good has come from it. We've met neighbors I never knew we had and they have stopped to offer help and have helped," said Dovie Thacker.

"You can't have anything better than friends, especially at a time like this," said Troy Thacker.

"You know we always plan for tomorrow but you never know what the Lord is going to hand you, but He promises he won't ever give us anything that He won't help us through," said Troy.

The family lost the insurance on the home.

If you would like to help the Thacker family, you can stop by the house on Robinson Drive or call WAFB at 225-215-4821.
