Police: Zachary man charged in two separate Baton Rouge murders

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A man being held in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a murder charge is charged with a second, unrelated murder. 

Police say 41-year-old Marlon Romaine Carter, of Zachary, LA, was in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison with charges of second degree murder, illegal use of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm. He is accused of shooting a homeless man on July 14, 2014.

Charles Vincent, 59, and Carter are suspected of getting into some type of dispute just before the shooting. Vincent was taken to the hospital after the shooting and later died. The shooting happened on Florida Street between North 13th and North 14th Street.


Carter was arrested on August 1, 2014 for the shooting death of Vincent.


Baton Rouge Police have now charged Carter with the July 10, 2014 shooting of 22-year-old Travis Jones. Jones was found lying dead in the middle of the street. It happened on South 17th and America Street around 10:15p.m. Carterr has been charged with first degree murder, attempted first degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm.

Police say details leading up to the shooting involving Jones are still unclear at this time.
