(WAFB) - The new edition of "The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary" has added more than 5,000 words. Bromance, hashtag, chillax and frenemy are some of the words that will help you rack up points.
The 36-year-old book, in its fifth edition and has been a decade since the Scrabble dictionary was updated. The new words add about 40 pages to the list that already includes more than 100,000 playable words.
In the dictionary, parts of speech and whether a plural is available are noted, and definitions are kept to a minimum.
Not all of the 5,000 words were identified, but a list of about 30 were released and include dubstep, mixtape, mojito, selfie, sudoku, texter, and vlog.
The word with the highest-scoring possibility is quinzhee. A quinzhee is a temporary snow shelter. The word has a maximum point value of 401 points. Played on the board's top row, ending at the top right through an existing "u," and a player can score 401 points, including the 50-point "bingo" bonus for using all seven tiles.
Words are inducted into The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary if they meet specific rules. All words must be between two and eight letters long and must be found in a standard dictionary. The words cannot be abbreviations, capitalized words, or words containing hyphens or apostrophes.
The dictionary will be available in paperback, hardcover and large print formats beginning August 6, 2014.
Digital versions of the dictionary will be available for iOS, Android, and Kindle in late August.
The dictionary will also be available to play later this year in the digital versions of the Scrabble game from Electronic Arts, available on Facebook, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Android devices.
