Lake Charles man accused of pretending to be police officer

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A 22-year-old Lake Charles man was arrested Sunday night following a traffic stop on US 171, state police said.

Sgt. James Anderson, spokesman from Troop D, said Derek Felice has been charged with impersonating an officer, speeding, expired inspection sticker and failure to show proof of insurance.

Anderson said Felice was doing 69 mph in a 55 mph zone when a trooper pulled him over.

"Felice claimed to be a (Welsh) police officer," Anderson said. "He then produced a Welsh Police Department identification card, but the investigation revealed Felice was a former officer and no longer employed there."

If convicted of impersonating an officer, Felice faces up to two years in prison and a $1,000 fine.

Bond was set at $10,000.
