LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A bullet remains lodged in a woman's pelvis after she was shot twice and robbed near 31st and Broadway while pushing her granddaughter in a stroller.

"He could've killed my granddaughter. She's only seven months old," Sherry said. "That's all I thought about was her."

Sherry, whose last name we're not releasing for her safety, is now recovering in a hospital. At first, Sherry said she just ignored a man in a black shirt and camouflage shorts who kept flirting with her.

"The gentleman kept trying to make a pass at me," said Sherry, "and I told him I wasn't interested because I'm married."

Sherry said she had just stepped off a TARC bus near 34th and Broadway. When she reached the 3100 block of West Broadway, the man grabbed her purse.

"He said, 'just let go.' And then I saw the gun," Sherry said. "It was small and black like the one women use in their purse. There was some tug of war and then he shot me twice. My right leg went numb and I went down. He ran between the houses behind us."

The armed man threw her purse in a nearby driveway. Sherry said there was $25 in her wallet.

"Doctors say I got a bullet lodged in my pelvis because they couldn't get it," Sherry said. "Every day I pray because it's so painful. I don't want to be here but I don't have a choice."

Louisville Metro police described the shooter as a black man approximately 5' 5'' and weighing 165 lbs. Police said he was wearing a black t-shirt and camouflage shorts. Anyone with information about him is asked to call the crime tip line at 574-LMPD (5673).
