Metairie carjacking caught on camera

METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) -

Jefferson Parish Sheriff deputies say there are plenty of questions from Saturday's alleged carjacking in Metairie. A mother and daughter driving down the 600 block Bonnabel Boulevard say men with guns forced them out and took off with their car.

"We usually don't have a lot of police in front of our house because this is a calm city," said Kelly Dupree who lives on Bonnabel. But Dupree will tell you Saturday night was anything but calm.

A neighbor's security system caught park of the carjacking on tape. Big Lee, who owns Big Lee's Towing has several cameras around his home. His footage shows a Ford Explorer and Chevrolet Cobalt slow down and pull towards the shoulder on Bonnabel Boulevard.

"They pulled up together," said Lee. "My neighbor across the street seen the whole thing happen."

What happened next wasn't caught on camera, but the victim told deputies two black men jumped out in front of her car. They had guns and ordered her and her daughter out of their Cobalt and onto the ground. Those gunmen were joined by two more men in a Ford Explorer directly in front of her, who then drove off in her car.

In Lee's footage, you can see a dark car backing down Bonnabel toward I-10. You see it's headlights swing around, and a few minutes later officers arrive on scene.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says the carjackers left being a green Ford Explorer. It's been taken in for processing, but the vehicle was not reported stolen. They are still trying to figure out who it belongs to.

The car reported stolen is a 2008 black Chevrolet Cobalt, with LA plate WTM308. Deputies are asking anyone with information to call Crimestoppers.
