19-year-old arrested after crime spree in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Baton Rouge Police say they have arrested a man after he and two other suspects allegedly committed multiple crimes in Baton Rouge.

Detectives say that at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, 19-year-old Andre Young of Baton Rouge and two accomplices, went on a crime spree throughout the city. Allegedly, Young and the other suspects committed robberies on the 5400 block of Greenwell Springs St and robbed a woman at 5665 McClelland Drive.

Police say Young also acted alone when forcing two of the women he robbed into their vehicles and drove them to a BREC Park on Evangeline where he allegedly raped them.

Afterwards, detectives say Young fled the scene in a victim’s vehicle.  They say he then allegedly robbed another person on the 3400 block of Ontario St and shot another man who was leaving his home. Young then fled that scene in that victim’s vehicle.

During the investigation, Young was spotted in the area and attempted to flee from police. Authorities took him into custody after he was found under a house in the 3700 block of Shelly Street.

According to Cpl. Ljean McKneely, investigators believe that Young and his accomplices committed crimes inside and outside of the Baton Rouge city limits.

Young was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and charged with 4 counts Armed Robbery, Attempt 1st Degree Murder, 2 counts of 2nd Degree Kidnapping, 2 counts of Aggravated Rape.

Police say this is a fluid case and the investigation is ongoing.
