Man turns himself in after shots fired at Gonzales house

GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge man tuned himself into Gonzales, LA detectives Thursday morning after being accused of firing shots into a house full of people.

On the morning of Wednesday, July 16, police say Royal Rosspeal Johnson, 24, is suspected of firing shots into an occupied home on Hamilton Street in Gonzales. Police believe the shooting happened because of an argument with the people living in the home. Reports say six people between the ages of 1 to 27 were in the house.

Investigators learned at least four shots were fired at the home and three passed through the walls of the house, however, no one was injured in the shooting.

Along with charges of six counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, Johnson was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and illegal discharge of a firearm inside the city limits.

Thursday morning, Johnson and his lawyer arrived at the Gonzales Police station to turn himself in for the warrant. Johnson was taken to the Ascension Parish Jail.
