Ex-Colerain teacher in sex case granted early release from jail

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

The former Colerain High School teacher convicted last year for having sex with a student has been granted an early release from jail.

Judge Norbert Nadel released ex-teacher Julie Hautzenroeder Thursday, six months into her two-year sentence.

Nadel called her actions "stupid" and "irresponsible" but said she served her time and has  daughter at home to take care of.

Hautzenroeder was convicted in November of 2013 on one count of sexual battery. She was originally indicted on two counts after allegations that she had sexual contact with two different students between April 26 and May 15 of 2013.

Hautzenroeder's new lawyer submitted a petition on July 11 of this year to have her released on the grounds that she was denied her right to an effective counsel at her first trial.

At her trial last year, two boys testified that they had sex with Hautzenroeder. They also said she offered them vodka and supplied marijuana for them to smoke.

Hautzenroeder said the boys pressured her to have sex with them and to get them to stop she performed a sex act with a sex toy. She said alcohol was present in her home but she never offered it to the teens. She also said the boys brought over the marijuana and she did not smoke with them.

The former teacher will still have to register as a tier three sex offender every 90 days for the rest of her life. She will also have to serve six months of probation.
