Jury finds man guilty of killing Brusly High football player

Murdered Brusly High football player's family speaks after suspect is convicted

PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) - A jury has found the man accused of killing a Brusly High football player guilty of second degree murder. The verdict announced just after 3 p.m. Thursday.

Marcus Richardson was charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Justin Warner, 18, in May 2012. Richardson faces life in prison.

The deadly shooting happened on Mother's Day in 2012 at the LA 1 Truck Plaza in Port Allen. Defense attorney Tommy Damico said the shooting was in self-defense.

Closing arguments in the trial wrapped up before noon on Thursday.  The jury deliberated for more than three hours. The trial was presided over by Judge Robin Free.
