Police said a crash on I-10 West on the Horace Wilkinson Bridge (New Bridge) resulted in six people being taken to the hospital by ambulance early Thursday morning.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reported the injuries were minor to moderate. The names of the victims were not released. The fire was quickly put out.
Many drivers experienced heavy delays after the fiery crash that happened around 5:30 a.m. shut down the interstate. The interstate reopened a little after 8 a.m.
Traffic was blocked on I-10 West at the I-10/I-110 Split. Cars were diverted to I-110 North and then to US 61 West. The closure created heavy backups on I-10 West to College Drive.
Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
