Judge suspends majority of sentence for 66-year-old man who pleaded guilty to battery of a juvenile

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

UPDATE: On October 2, 2017, Chris Bourgeois pleaded guilty to an amended charge of aggravated second-degree battery, which is not a sex crime. He was sentenced to serve 12 years in prison, but Judge Bonnie Jackson suspended all but thirty-eight months of the sentence.

The additional stipulations of his sentence include: (1) pay $60.00 per month to the Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Division of Probation and Parole, to defray the cost of supervision; (2) submit to psycho-sexual evaluation within ninety (90) days and follow all recommended treatment; (3) pay $50,000.00 to the victim's family for past and future counselling, through Probation and Parole; (4) have no contact with the victim or her immediate family in her household; (5) have no unsupervised contact with any juvenile females; and (6) pay court costs of $398.75 through Probation and Parole. The Court ordered the accused to report forthwith to the Division of Probation and Parole for his initial interview in connection with his probation. The Court advised the accused of his right to appeal his conviction and his sentence within sixty days from this date and his right to post-conviction relief within two years from the finality of the judgment of conviction and sentence. The Court further advised the accused that a Motion to Reconsider Sentence is to be filed within thirty days from this date. The Court ordered probation transferred to the State of North Carolina. Notify Probation and Parole of same. The accused was remanded back to the custody of the Sheriff of East Baton Rouge Parish.

ORIGINAL: A 63-year-old man from North Carolina is being held in Baton Rouge for the alleged molestation of a young girl and an outstanding warrant for a sexual battery in St. James Parish.

According to the probable cause report submitted by the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, one incident originally occurred during the summer of 2011. The victim, who lives in Lutcher, was only 11-years-old at the time.

The victim told police that Chris Michael Bourgeois touched her inappropriately. It happened at a hotel room in East Baton Rouge Parish.

On July 21, 2014, Bourgeois turned himself in to authorities in East Baton Rouge Parish. The report notes that he was read his rights and declined to make any statements.

During his arrest, the deputy discovered the outstanding warrant for sexual battery. No information was provided relative to that arrest.

Bourgeois is charged with indecent behavior with a juvenile, molestation of a juvenile, and sexual battery (St. James). He is being held on a $30,000 bond.
