Jury selection begins in Hammond deadly shooting trial

HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - Jury selection begins Tuesday in the murder trial of a man suspected of shooting another man to death two years ago.

Ronald Vail, 61, of Hammond, is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Joseph Daigle, 42, of Metairie. If convicted of second-degree murder, Vail faces life in prison.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office reported Vail is accused of shooting Daigle around 11:30 p.m. on April 22, 2012.

Deputies said they arrived on the scene and found Vail standing on the porch of the home where the shooting happened. They added Daigle was already dead.
