GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Another fundraiser in support to the family of 5-year-old Janaya Thompson was held at the Good Deeds Community Center Sunday evening.

Since Janaya's death, people from across the state have been taking action to show the Thompson family they're not alone. Herman Wilson and his wife put on a jazz and blues concert for guests to show support.

"We talk, but when it's time to step up and do true actions, we all need to step up. And this is one of those events," Wilson said.

Dozens of guests expressed their support to the Thompson family through monetary donations. They also took time to celebrate the life of heaven's newest angel.

"I feel like it's always important. Not just for the Gulfport community, but anytime you have a tragedy like this in any community, it's good for the people to come together and show that they have unity and love for each other," Wilson said.

"We need to learn to be more supportive of each other. We need to come together as a community and always lend support no matter what it is. In a tragedy, especially. But maybe this will start us to learn that we need to support each other at all times," supporter Linda Sanders said.

Moving forward, Wilson hopes to see the community protect, watch and love one another as a community should.

"This is so tragic, you know, for this to happen and it shouldn't have happened. We've got to watch our kids, boys and girls. But I mean it's the world we live in; we have to be more protective of ours," Wilson said.

Two persons of interest have been arrested as part of the investigation into Janaya Thompson's murder, but neither has been charged with a crime directly related to the girl's death. They are being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on unrelated charges.

Why did Cracker Barrel fire Brad's wife? It's really no one's business, other than Brad's and his wife's, but that hasn't stopped people around the world from demanding answers after a Harrison County, IN, man publicly asked the restaurant chain why his wife Nanette was let go from her job at the Cracker Barrel in Corydon.
