GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - A Gonzales man has lost his life in a deadly crash in Ascension Parish, according to the Louisiana State Police. TFC Jared Sandifer of the LSP Troop A says the incident happened just before 1:45 p.m. Saturday on LA Hwy 74 at KC Road (LA Hwy 938).
Sara Andrews, 22, of Baton Rouge was heading southbound on KC Road in a 2008 Nissan Altima just as the other driver, 35-year-old Robert Deaton of Geismar was driving westbound on LA Hwy 74 in a 2008 Infiniti FX35. State Police say that Andrews stopped at the stop sign at the highways’ intersection and then proceeded to cross the intersection as Deaton was heading westbound. As a result, State Police say Deaton’s Infiniti struck the Nissan.
Breaux was a front-seat passenger in the Nissan, and he sustained fatal injuries from the crash even though he was properly restrained. Trooper Sandifer says both drivers were also wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and only suffered minor to moderate injuries.
Investigators say that driver impairment is not suspected for either driver, but both drivers still submitted toxicology samples for analysis in the State Police Crime Lab.
