Police identify man killed in Scotland Ave. shooting, suspect arrested

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Baton Rouge Police say they've identified  a shooting death victim on Scotland Avenue, and another man has been arrested. The shooting took place early Saturday morning in the 8300 block of Scotland Avenue just before 3:00 am.  When they arrived on the scene they found a man lying in the median of the roadway suffering from a single gunshot wound. 

The shooting victim is 27-year-old Carl Joseph James of Marigouin, La. According to BRPD Cpl. L’Jean McKneeley, James was accidentally shot by 21-year-old Tyrell King. McKneeley says that King was trying to unload a hand gun when a shot fired and struck James in the back. 

EMS was called and James was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. 

King was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of negligent homicide and illegal use of a weapon.
