'Uniforms for Kids' gets underway

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - "Uniforms for Kids" sponsored by WAFB together with St. Vincent de Paul and Keans the Cleaners is underway in Baton Rouge now through August 8.

"This year we're trying to help close to 13,000 needy and homeless children in 11 surrounding parishes" said St. Vincent de Paul President and CEO Michael Acaldo. "Each child in a qualifying circumstance will receive two uniforms."

The drive represents more than physical uniforms, but preserves confidence and self esteem for kids starting a new school year.

"We're trying to break the cycle of poverty and if you lose that self esteem and confidence, you can't break that cycle" Acaldo said.

$12 donations provide one uniform, $24 donations provide two uniforms, $120 donations help five kids and $1,200 donations help 50 kids.
