NWS issues flash flood watch for Metro Baton Rouge area

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The heavy rains that passed through south Louisiana on Friday morning and those expected throughout the day prompted the National Weather Service to issue flash flood watches and warnings.

The rain caused problems for some areas of East Baton Rouge Parish. Below is a list of some of those issues and where they happened.

High Water:

9300 Bluebonnet at Highland

20880 Greenwell Springs at Will

5889 Airline at Greenwell Springs

11900 Greenwell Springs at Monticello

Tree Down:

Liberty between Jackson and Pride Port Hudson

Highland at Perkins

Lights Out:

Bluebonnet at I-10

The flash flood watch is in effect for the Metro Baton Rouge area that included the following Louisiana parishes and Mississippi counties.


East Baton Rouge 
East Feliciana
Pointe Coupee
St. Helena
St. James
West Baton Rouge
West Feliciana



Chief Meteorologist Jay Grimes said radar indicated 2" to 3" of rain had fallen as of 9:30 a.m.

The watch is scheduled to be in effect until 6 p.m. A flash flood warning was issued for the southwestern part of Louisiana.
