BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Hurricane season is underway and Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon has a plan that could help homeowners.

He's requesting that State Farm offer Louisiana policyholders an option of lower hurricane deductibles.

The plan would have a two percent deductible on a homeowner's insurance policy. Homeowner's would have the option to pay the difference in premium.

Commissioner Donelon is also reminding all policyholders to review their policies and pay attention to deductibles in place during hurricane season.
