LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) -

Louisiana State Police said two suspicious devices were found near the campus of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday.

Troopers and bomb technicians plan to explode the first device. They warned people living there about the controlled explosion. They are carefully examining the second device.

Authorities evacuated the campus, along with nearby homes and businesses, out of an abundance of caution for the safety of students and residents. People are asked to avoid the area.

The first device was found in Gerard Park near the campus around 5:30 a.m.

The campus, park and all surrounding roads have been closed.
