AMITE, LA (WAFB) -

Officials will pick up the investigation Tuesday into an accident involving a train that happened in Tangipahoa Parish on Monday.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office said an Amtrak train carrying nearly 200 passengers hit a dump truck between Independence and Amite around 1:30 p.m.

Deputies said none of the 193 passengers on the train were hurt. The truck driver was taken to the hospital. He was last listed in stable condition and is expected to recover from his injuries.

Authorities are working to figure out what caused the collision, but they said the preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the truck “neglected to yield at the crossing.”

Investigators said the train hit the truck on the driver’s side and the driver was thrown out. The dump truck was hauling asphalt.
