Report: Graham will appeal TE designation

Updated:
NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Less than twenty 24 hours away from the deadline to sign a long term deal, Jimmy Graham has thrown a curve ball into his contract holdout.

Graham had until 3 p.m. Monday afternoon to appeal an arbitrator's ruling that Graham, indeed, be paid as a tight end and not a wide receiver. The difference is $7 million as opposed to $12 million.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Graham has appealed. His case now goes before a three person panel. There has been no word yet on when the appeal might be heard.

That leaves Graham with two basic choices, play under the tag or sit out the season.

Graham had 86 catches for more than 1,200 yards and 16 TD receptions.
