Police: Driver identified in deadly hit-and-run crash that killed LSU student

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge Police have issued an arrest warrant for a man wanted in connection to the deadly crash that killed 20-year-old Eric Fabre on June 20, 2014.

Janneh L. Trench, 35 of Vacherie, LA is wanted in connection of the death of Fabre. Baton Rouge Police Traffic Homicide Investigators learned that after the crash Trench allegedly fled the scene and later arrived at an abandoned lot in the 2500 block of Erie Street.

Police say Trench then attempted to burn the red 2007 Chrysler 300, which he was driving, to destroy any evidence from the crash. Investigators found the burned out vehicle hours after the crash.

Fabre was riding his motorized scooter when police say Trench's vehicle rear ended the scooter. Fabre did not survive the crash.

The crash happened on Airline Highway at Old Hammond Highway in Baton Rouge, which is right by the Hammond Aire Shopping Center, just before 1 a.m.

Fabre was an LSU student who was working at Plucker's on Nicholson Drive. He had been an employee there for three years.

Trench is wanted on charges of Felony Hit & Run, Reckless Operation, Obstruction of Justice and Operating a Vehicle while Under Suspension.
