BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - WAFB has been named the state's best newscast by the Louisiana Associated Press.
The prestigious "Best Newscast" award was among nine Associated Press awards presented to WAFB during a ceremony at LSU Saturday afternoon.
Reporter Tyana Daquano and photojournalist Derron Daquano were awarded first place in the "Best General News" category for their report entitled "Getting Home". Derron Daquano also won a third place award for Best Sports Story for his feature piece on the Redemptorist High School football team.
WAFB Sports Director Steve Schneider added to his trophy case with a third place finish in "Best Feature" and a second place award in "Best Sportscast".
Reporter Kiran Chawla was honored with the third place award in the category of "Reporter of the Year". Chawla also brought home a third place finish in the category of Best In-Depth Series for a series of her investigative news reports.
WAFB photojournalists Robert Hollins and Leah Ellsworth secured a second place award in Best Videography for their work on the WAFB Investigation "Stolen from the Law".
The WAFB News Team was honored in the category of Best Spot News with a third place award for their coverage of a plane crash in Baker.
