CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Cincinnati Police have arrested the man wanted in connection to the Piatt Park shooting in downtown on Monday night.

Fonte Williams, 22, peacefully surrendered Wednesday evening on Beekman Street in Millvale, Cincinnati Police announced on their twitter account.

Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell tweeted his thanks to the Fugitive Apprehension Unit, officers and the community for what he said was a tireless effort to apprehend Williams.

Williams was named as a suspect in connection to the murder of 25-year-old Joshua Lamar Taylor.

Taylor died Monday night after being shot multiple times. Two men were reportedly arguing at the intersection of Garfield Place and Vine around 7 p.m. when shots were fired.

Police said Taylor was found on the ground in the nearby park and later died at the hospital.

Just over 24 hours later, three people were shot at the same location during a vigil being held for Taylor. They suffered non-life threatening injuries.

In a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Chief Blackwell said he believes that there are no gang connections in the shootings over the last two nights.

Blackwell said he is confident the shootings are related.

At the press conference, officials provided an update on downtown safety initiatives.

"We are working with partners and taking every step necessary to create a visible and safe presence in the city," Blackwell said.

Blackwell says social media could be one of the reasons why reckless behavior is on the rise in urban areas.

How police plan to heighten downtown security during major summer events

"You have flash mobs we keep seeing, you have the influx and the use of social media, which certainly adds to the ability for these groups to quickly ensemble in areas and create havoc," Chief Blackwell said.

Anyone with information about this homicide is asked to call the Criminal Investigation Section at 352-3542 or Crimestoppers at 352-3040.
