BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Two of Baton Rouge finest were honored by the company that helped save their lives. Safariland manufactures bulletproof vests that protect law enforcement officers in the field.

Sgt. Chris Polito and Corporal Rich McClosky were both saved by their vests when they were hit in the line of duty.

“It's my job,” says Polito. “It’s a possibility every day that any officer puts on their badge and their gun and steps into work. But it doesn't go through your head, if it goes through your head you're gonna start thinking more and more about that and you're gonna be fearful and if you're fearful you're not gonna do what you need to do."

Those vests weigh about 30 pounds even without all the gear loaded in it.
