BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Investigators said DNA evidence helped to identify a suspect that has now been arrested in an armed robbery and shooting that happened on June 28.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office reported Johron Segura, 19, of Baton Rouge, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Prison on Thursday.
He is charged with attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and illegal use of a weapon. His bond was set at $151,000.
Records show technicians at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab matched Segura's DNA to evidence found on a gun left behind after the incident on Cherry Hill Avenue. Officials added they had obtained Segura's DNA in connection with a case from 2012.
According to the probable cause report, a second suspect shot a victim in the thigh. Investigators said the suspects robbed two other men at gunpoint. They added the suspects got away with two cell phones and $3 in cash.
Detectives have not yet identified the second suspect.
The investigation is ongoing.
