BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A motorcyclist is dead after crashing into a sports utility vehicle Monday night, according to authorities.

The victim was identified as Travis Castle, 34, of Baker.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported the wreck happened on Choctaw Drive at Pimpernel Avenue around 8:30 p.m.

Cpl. Don Coppola Jr. with BRPD said Castle was riding a 2009 Suzuki motorcycle westbound in the left lane on Choctaw. He added Castle was possibly riding “at a high rate of speed.”

According to Coppola, a 2010 Mazda CX7 was in the right lane on Choctaw headed in the same direction as Castle, but then moved over into the left lane. Coppola said as a result, “the Suzuki slid into the Mazda.”

Investigators added Castle was thrown off the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The SUV flipped in the process and ended up on its roof. Coppola reported the 34-year-old woman who was driving was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
