BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge convenience store clerk is facing attempted murder charges after he allegedly fired a gun at one of his own customers.
According to a probable cause report, 23-year-old Hazem Mohammed Obaid of Detroit, MI, got into an argument with a customer at the B's Seafood and Deli located at 1760 Plank Road.
The report discloses two other shoppers separately told authorities that they were standing behind the victim in line. They said Obaid and the victim began screaming at each other and then, Obaid allegedly grabbed a black handgun and began pushing the victim out of the store with the gun still in his hand. Witnesses also told authorities that Obaid allegedly instructed them to get down before he ran behind the counter and fired a round at the victim, striking the glass counter.
Officers reported noticing "a black Glock 40 Caliber handgun sitting on the counter", and they were able to locate the spent casing matching the gun and bullet fragments from the shattered glass of the counter.
Obaid reportedly informed police that after the argument, the victim would not leave his store. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Orison on a charge of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder.
