ASSUMPTION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - The crews looking for a missing 12-year-old girl have moved their search to a different area.
Authorities trying to find Talaija Dorsey from St. James Parish have moved their efforts to fields in Assumption Parish. The child has been missing since July 1. The change was made after John Celestine, 42, who is her mother’s fiancé, was arrested in connection with her disappearance.
Crews are searching from the skies, on horseback and on foot, looking through the sugarcane fields off LA 70, where part of the search has moved. Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack said it is believed Celestine was in the area on July 1. He is thought to have ties to the property.
Deputies also continue to search in St. James. Elizabeth Davis, the missing girl's aunt, said there is no easy way to describe how family members have felt since early Tuesday morning.
"Disbelief, that's a good word for this," she said. "We watch this on TV, we read about a child being taken from the home. Never in a million years did we think something like this would go on."
Celestine is still being questioned by authorities. He is charged with obstruction of justice and false reports in connection with Dorsey's disappearance.
