BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - [if gte mso 9]>
Louisiana State Police identified the suspects as Alexander Madison and Alvin Carter, both of Pensacola, FL. Troopers said Madison was the driver. According to reports, Madison allegedly tried to ram at least one of the LSP units during the chase.
Officials said a state trooper tried to pull over a 2014 Dodge Avenger for a lane violation on I-10 East in West Baton Rouge Parish around 10:45 p.m., but the driver would not stop. Multiple law enforcement agencies then chased the suspects across the Mississippi River into Baton Rouge. Reports indicate the chase reached speeds more than 100 mph.
The car exited at College Drive and according to LSP, hit a parked car in front of the Chili's restaurant on Constitution Avenue, which is right off College. A manager for the restaurant says the crash happened about 10 minutes before closing time. She added, the car in question flew by one of the servers who had just finished for the evening, before crashing into another car in the parking lot.
However, the chase did not end there, as the suspects bailed out of the car. Troopers said they were found at the nearby Crowne Plaza Hotel around 11:45 p.m. and taken into custody.
"From what I understand, Baton Rouge City brought a K-9 out and they used that dog to locate the individuals," said Tpr. Jared Sandifer. "Found them hiding on the second floor of the Crowne Plaza."
A security guard at the hotel says the two men walked into the lobby and gave the name of someone they said was staying there. The guard then noticed the men became somewhat antsy when they heard a police helicopter. The guard called police, asked if they were looking for two men and told officers to come to the hotel.
Madison was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and then transferred to the West Baton Rouge Parish Prison because the chase started across the river. He faces charges of hit and run, aggravated flight from officer, reckless operation, criminal damage to property and left lane violation. Carter was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of hit and run and aggravated flight from officer. Authorities said he also has an outstanding warrant in Florida for possession and distribution of cocaine.
The investigation is ongoing.
