BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The battle over Common Core and Parc may be taken to court as  the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education voted to hire outside lawyers for guidance to begin a possible legal fight against Gov. Bobby Jindal. This comes after Jindal issued an executive order to put the move to common core on hold while contracts are reviewed.

Some very influential groups from around the state said it's time to turn up the heat on the governor and find out who has the top legal authority in this situation.

They sent this statement: "Because of that we are asking BESE take the appropriate steps to resolve whatever real or perceived issues there may be about its legal authority by seeking a judgment from the courts. We believe that is the absolutely critical next step."

State Superintendent of Education John White said people need to figure out that first before they go in circles.

"If we were to go for a new contract, we would end up in the exact same meeting, having the exact same discussion about clarity and confusion of governmental roles that we are having today, except that we would be two months from now," said White.

No legal action can be taken until a vote at the next board meeting.
