BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control (ATC) has issued 331 violations as part of its Summer crackdown on underage alcohol and tobacco sales.
Of those, 211 were for alcohol sales to minors and 120 for tobacco sales to minors.
Since the crackdown began in June, agents have conducted more than 2,400 compliance checks.
"About 85% of businesses checked did not sell to a minor. That's good news. We just need to focus on the 15% that continue to violate the law," said Commissioner Troy Hebert.
Businesses caught selling alcohol or tobacco to those who are underage are subject to criminal and administrative charges. They may face fines and penalties that could result in suspension or revocation of their alcohol and tobacco permits.
