BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The new interim chancellor of Southern University is a familiar face.

The Southern University Board of Supervisors named Flandus McClinton, Jr. to the position Monday.

McClinton is currently the vice chancellor of finance and administration. He has been with the university for 43 years, serving as vice chancellor of finance since 1998. He is also an alumnus of the university.

The decision was made after the board went into executive session.

Former Chancellor James Llorens' contract expired on June 30. There's no timetable as to when a permanent chancellor will be named.
