LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

Jury selection began Monday in the trial of Armonta DeQuon Hadnot, the man accused in last year's triple homicide at McMillan Park.

Hadnot is facing three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Authorities claim the 19-year-old Hadnot robbed and fatally shot Jeminskian J. Arvie, David Jermaine Galmore and Fitzgerald Tremayne Guillory on March 20, 2013.

Hadnot, who pleaded not guilty to all the charges, is also facing aggravated assault with a firearm charges in connection with an incident that occurred hours before the McMillan Park shootings. Authorities said Hadnot got into an argument and fired multiple shots at a vehicle while riding down US 171. No one was injured in that shooting and no trial date has been set.

Last week, a judge agreed to severe the assault charges as well as some armed robbery charges from the murder and attempted murder charges.

In July 2013, the Calcasieu District Attorney's Office decided not to seek the death penalty for Hadnot.

According to city police, Hadnot was also a suspect in a September 2012 shooting near the intersection of Rena and Harless streets.
