BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A new charter elementary school spent the day making their new building look nicer Saturday.

The school teamed with Forum 35 to spruce up their location in the Glen Oaks neighborhood. They called it "Come Clean Up with Us" and about 65 volunteers spent the day landscaping, painting and cleaning out the hallways and classrooms.

The founder of the new charter said it was their first full day in the building and that the location couldn't be a better fit.

"We're really excited about being in Glen Oaks," said Meghan Turner, the founder and executive director of UP Elementary. "We've had a great response from the community about coming here and being in this neighborhood. We know that this community is ready for something new and different, and we're really excited to be a part of that and bring something new and different here."

It's officially called University Prep Elementary, but they call it UP Elementary for short. UP is scheduled to open this fall with kindergarten only, and will grow by one grade each year until it has kindergarten through fifth grade.
