CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

You may have heard the roar of hundreds of motorcycles.

The Sixth Annual Cops Ride in Cleveland started at the Cleveland Police Memorial in Downtown Cleveland and traveled all the way to Avon.  For the families of the fallen, this is an event that shows them we'll never forget their sacrifice.

The Pipes and Drums of the Cleveland Police played, "Amazing Grace," during the ceremony to kick off the ride. Sitting nearby were family members of the fallen.

Sandra Gresko lost her husband, Willoughby Police Officer Jason Gresko, in September of 2012.

"He was very dedicated.  He loved what he did.  He loved going to work every day," says Gresko.

Officer Gresko was on his way to a call when he swerved to miss a drunk driver and was killed.

"Every day we talk about Jason and the stories and things that we miss about him.  That actually gets us through - how he would want us to live today," adds Gresko.

Sandra Gresko says she feels the loss of her husband every day.  She's now raising their daughter Olivia on her own.

"Living as a police wife, yes, you know that every day they are risking their lives, but when you are living it, you don't think it's going to happen to you."

One hundred and eleven police officers died in the line of duty in the last year.  Two of them were from Ohio.

The hundreds that gathered for the ceremony and ride said they were there to make sure no one forgets that every day the men and women in blue are putting their lives on the line to keep all of us safe.

"All the people here to support that, emphasize to our daughter, who is four – two and a half at the time - that her daddy was a very important person, and won't forget the sacrifice he made," says Gresko.

Little Olivia waved to the riders as they left W. 3rd and Lakeside.
