BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - More jobs and grocery options are headed to families living near Bluebonnet Boulevard and Burbank Drive in Baton Rouge.
There was a grand opening ceremony held at the new Walmart Supercenter on Wednesday. It is bringing 300 jobs to East Baton Rouge Parish. The facility occupies 150,000 square feet. City and state officials are excited about the energy the retail giant will likely bring to that part of town.
"When a Walmart store comes to an area, it's a very good sign," said Jim Patterson with the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry. "It's an indication that the area is experiencing economic vitality because Walmart executives don't just simply drop a store into an area and hope to make a go of it."
There is even more good news. The Walmart Foundation is going to present $7,000 in grants to community groups in the Baton Rouge area.
