BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Workforce and Innovation for a Stronger Economy (WISE) Council addressed at their first official meeting Tuesday how they will allocate funds to Louisiana residents.

There are three means of fund distribution – general, in house, and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). WISE is focusing on the latter.

CDBG provides necessary resources to communities. WISE is interested in offering resources like tuition, book costs, and even counselor support to Louisiana students in need.

The primary goal is to give at least 51 percent of WISE dollars to students with low to moderate income.

However, according to the council, not all people in Louisiana can qualify for such assistance. Only 53 out of the state's 64 parishes – excluding the North West corner – are eligible.

Students that do qualify though are hopefully nearing assistance. The council is meeting this Thursday to specify data plans and model scenarios, and they plan to meet again in early August to formalize a fund distribution timeline.
