New Roads officials save annual Fourth of July celebration

NEW ROADS, LA (WAFB) - A longstanding Fourth of July tradition on False River will continue thanks to the City of New Roads.

The City Council voted Wednesday evening to host the annual False River Fourth of July Boat parade and apply for a Marine permit with Wildlife and Fisheries.

The longtime organizers of the event cancelled the celebration last week, citing liability issues and the high cost of purchasing the permit.

New Roads Mayor Robert Myer says his city is accustomed to hosting safe events and the boat parade will be no different.
