BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board voted Thursday not to renew the contract of Superintendent Dr. Bernard Taylor Jr.
The vote was 11-1. Taylor will serve out the remainder of his contract, which expires on June 30, 2015.
Taylor said he asked the board for this and it's exactly what he wanted.
"There's a whole host of things that have been done and I've only been here two years and this has not been easy, but I'm at peace," Taylor said. "I feel great about what I've done, what I'm going to do and I'm looking forward to the year. Like I said, I'm going to be a superintendent somewhere else. This was never my final destination, anyway. But I am going to say this, I enjoyed working here. I'm enjoying working here with great principals, great teachers, excellent students and a wonderful community. I'm fine and I'm going to be fine."
When asked what was next for him, Taylor said he wants to move the district forward.
Taylor was named superintendent in June 2012 after a contentious search. He signed a three-year contract.
David Tatman, president of the EBRSB said members will wait until the new board is elected in next year to let them start the search for the next superintendent. Board elections will be held in the fall.
