Reaction from Ascension Parish Schools Superintendent on Common Core

ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

The following statement was released from Superintendent Patrice Pujol of the Ascension Parish School System:

"Ascension has been on a path to rigorous curriculum for several years before the advent of common core.  Our mission is to assure that every student is college and career ready such that he or she will flourish in the 21st century global economy. We have used the standards to help assure that all of our educators have a common understanding of what high academic rigor looks like at each grade level.  We have spent the last 3 years making the standards our own and developing the appropriate scaffolding for our students to produce mastery.  Our efforts have produced positive results with more of our students scoring at the advanced and mastery level and fewer of our students scoring approaching basic and unsatisfactory.  We plan to continue on our current path, making adjustments as appropriate for our students.  We are confident that this path will produce strong outcomes for our students.  "
