LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) - Four Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Deputies turned themselves into Louisiana State Police this week for their involvement in the beating of an inmate in his cell that happened on April 8.
An investigation revealed that an inmate was causing a disturbance in his cell at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. Two deputies, 33-year-old Michael McSheffrey and 28-year-old Brandon Gallien entered the cell and struck the inmate an excessive number of times.
Reports also say two other deputies, 28-year-old Adrian Theriot and 33-year-old Scarla Celestine watched and didn't intervene.
The inmate was hospitalized for several day with serious injuries.
According to the Louisiana State Police news release, all four deputies failed to report the incident accurately to supervisors.
Michael McSheffrey and Brandon Gallien were both charged with second degree battery and malfeasance in office.
Adrian Theriot and Scarla Celestine were both charged with principal to second degree battery and malfeasance in office.
The case remains under investigation.
