GONZALES, LA (WAFB) -

Soldiers from across Louisiana received a warm welcome home Wednesday morning.

Smiles, hugs, and tears filled the Army National Guard Armory in Gonzales, as members of the 1021st Engineer Company returned to the arms of their loved ones. The company is based out of Covington, and they have been gone for nearly a year.

They were part of a group of 160 soldiers who were deployed to Kuwait for a year to assist in Operation Enduring Freedom. While they were there, the guardsmen helped with construction, plumbing and electrical support.

Several events were held all over the state to welcome the men and women back home.
